Volunteer Effort on the Small Jugla River
On 11 September, a river restoration and cleanup volunteer effort took place on the Small Jugla River. During the event, participants helped clear a section of the river of excessive accumulations of fallen trees, which hinder the movement of water, sediments, and aquatic organisms.
The cleanup was organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Latvia) as part of the LIFE RiverFlow project, while the initiative was conceived by AS Latvenergo, one of the project's partners. This year, Latvenergo has set the improvement of the ecological status of a 12-kilometre stretch of the Small Jugla River as one of its corporate biodiversity enhancement goals.
To carry out practical river restoration activities, the company is cooperating with the association Mēs zivīm ("For Fish"). The volunteer cleanup organised by WWF took place precisely within this stretch of the Small Jugla River, complementing the river restoration work that had already been completed.
