Sustainability projects at HPPs
Investing in Elektrum's sustainability with Recovery Fund support
To improve the company's energy efficiency, Elektrum is implementing several sustainable and environmentally friendly investment projects co-financed by the European Union:
Green energy generation and use in the company's energy supply (project No. PIET-EE2-93 and project No. PIET-EE2-94).
- Construction of a solar power plant on the Ķegums HPP site, where the electricity generated will be used to partially cover the own consumption of Ķegums HPP-2. The planned generating capacity of the solar power plant is 36 kW;
- Construction of a solar power plant on the Pļaviņas HPP site, where the electricity generated will be used to partially cover the own consumption of Pļaviņas HPP. The planned generating capacity of the solar power plant is 60 kW.
The total cost of both renewable energy technology projects is EUR 112 388.97, of which European Union co-financing amounts to EUR 27 865.03.
Improving energy efficiency in the company's buildings by reducing electricity consumption for heating and increasing the energy efficiency of heating substations (project No. PIET-EE2-95 and project No. PIET-EE2-96).
- Installation of an air-to-water heat pump in the utility buildings of Riga HPP. The total maximum electrical power required to operate the heat pump is 48 kW, and the maximum heat output is 79 kW.
- Installation of an air-to-water heat pump in the buildings of Ķegums HPP-2. The total maximum electrical power required to operate the heat pump is 48 kW, and the maximum heat output is 79 kW.
The total cost of both energy efficiency projects is EUR 119 365.44, of which European Union co-financing amounts to EUR 29 594.72.
These investment projects contribute to reducing negative impacts on climate change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 33 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year.
All four investment projects have been approved for European Union co-financing of 30% of eligible project costs under the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility plan, reform and investment direction 1.2 “Improving energy efficiency”, investment 1.2.1.2.i “Improving energy efficiency in business (including the transition to renewable energy technologies in heating and research and development activities (including in the bioeconomy)”, measure 1.2.1.2.i.1 “Improving energy efficiency in business (including the transition to renewable energy technologies in heating)”.
State aid for the implementation of the projects is provided by the Development Finance Institution Altum (Attīstības finanšu institūcija Altum AS).
